Great Expectations (summary) Summary The novel, Great Expectations, presents the story of a spring chicken boy growing up and becoming a gentleman. He must learn to appreciate people for who they are, not spit out them for who they arent. Nicknamed post, Philip Pirrip, the main character, goes through many changes in his personality, as he is influenced by various people. Pip experiences tough times as a boy and a juvenile man, notwithstanding at the end he has become a fine, team spirit young man. The novel starts out with Pip feeding an escapee from jail.
